With the increasing rate of migration and reduction in agricultural land due to industrialization, there is an urgent need for the rural youth to acquire basic skills in industrial trades. Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) cater to this need but are unable to cover the interior rural populace and reach the last mile youth in the country side. Women and especially young girls stay inside their homes after they have completed their schooling and are soon married off due to social customs and traditions.
In the light of these facts, TKF has started a certified skill development initiative in collaboration with Gujarat government known as Kaushalya Vardhan Kendra, at Kalsar village of Mahuva Taluka, district Bhavnagar. Courses such as fundamentals of computer, tailoring, beautician, repairing of home appliances, house wiring embroidery, fast food cooking etc is being taught to villagers who enroll themselves for these programs. These short term courses span from 1 to 3 months duration and allow the trainees to acquire respective skills without disturbing their main stream work. With more focus on women empowerment activities, we seek to promote entrepreneurship abilities among the rural community and strengthen the last mile youth’s ability for livelihood opportunities.
